Mannequin #22: The Segeltuchtasche 15
The Gummi Gas Mask Model 15 (Gummimaske) respirators were introduced during 1915. Initially, the mask was supplied without a bag or metal can and was stored away in the bread bag or in cans fabricated in the field. Later in 1915, special bags were distributed for the Gummimaske. These grey cloth bags (Segeltuchtasche 15) had three compartments. The mask was stored in a tin can and put inside the canvas bag. A spare filter was stored in a smaller can and positioned next to the gas mask can and the third compartment contained another filter as well. The canvas bag had two canvas belt loops at the back and was worn at the hip.
Both ends of the bag are stamped in black ink with the number 1,2 or 3, corresponding to the three sizes of gas masks.
The below photo illustrates a rare first model cloth carrier (the cloth strap is buttoned behind the belt) with Gummi gas mask attached onto the belt.
