    Wall display cabinet ideas?

    Hello all!

    Thanks to all who have shown their collection in this forum, some pretty breath taking examples I must say!!!

    Anyway, since I am new to the collecting side of things I still have the "puppy chasing his tail"...buying anything and everything with no direction. so on the advice of others I am just going to keep collecting Unit patches, Eagles and other insignia until I decide what I want to focus on, far too many things and way too few dollars to collect it all

    With all that said. I am a journeyman carpenter/cabinetmaker and I want to make two displays to mount on the wall with my insignia. I'm thinking of 2 (allied and axis) 4x4 shallow oak "boxes" with a felt/velvet lining and a glass door (with a lock..darn grandkids!).

    My problem lays with how to hold the insignia on. I don't want to pin, glue, tape, etc as I feel it is wrong to damage anything. Anyone have a similar display set up to what I am thinking?

    The same problem!

    And a few weeks ago I have finally find a solution.

    Use this:

    (its called Schaukasten - german)

    It is filled up with fleece that presses your items up to the glass and hold them in a right position. It is good to put on the fleece some nice representative material also. Or you can made that cases yourself!

    In a 2-3 days I will have some of that cases for myself and then I can make a few pictures for you.

                They are called Ryker case here in North America.

                They do work nicely.

                    I use riker cases also...I just added a twist to some of mine...I bought some small "mats" from a craft store and I use them in various configurations within the riker cases to highlight certain items and to add some depth to the display rather than displaying everything on the same plane so to speak...

                    I'll try to get a pic up of what I'm talking about in the next couple days so you can see what I mean...

                      Here is what I use. Holds all items firmly in place from dagger to armband in the same case, plus you can hang them on the wall, Ryker mounts are very difficult to hang because they are made of cardboard.

                        blutundehre, your cases are very nice looking indeed, but they are far more expensive than riker ones I think.

                        And it's very easy to make a solid mount for rikers. You just need 2 drawing pins and short piece of wire. But there is one requirement for that - items in riker case couldn't be heavy... that's the only restriction

                          Thanks, and you are 100% correct, my cases are much more expensive than rikers, but,there is quite a difference between them,you really can't compare the two, and for me, my collection needs to reside in something much more substantial. The rikers also can't house packets or paper items easily as you can't get enough pressure on the items to hold in place, I use to have these hanging on my wall with adhesive strips and I always found my stuff had fallen to the bottom of the case and for daggers and firearms you simply need a stronger case. I got so pi$$ed at those things I threw most of them out

                            Case....

                            As an owner of one of Dave's cases i can attest to their beauty and durability. I have 2 daggers in one. Yes, a bit costly but extremely well made and finished. I can't say enough good about them.

                            Rikers are a great way to lay things out for easy viewing and keep them somewhat protected. But there are times where a really special item(s) deserve a home commensurate with their value, be it monetary or sentimental. There is noplace better than one of Daves cases for that.

                            A suggestion with the rikers to keep things from sliding when vertical, place a thin layer of foam or similar soft material beneath the white layer. It will add a bit more soft pressure to the item as it presses against the glass.

                            Good luck with your project....i'm sure you'll craft a fine display for your things...
