Hello
New to the forum and thought it would be proper conduct to introduce myself a bit. My name is Bastiaan (from the name Sebastian) and only recently started collecting on a small scale in the German WW2 memorabilia field. I have collected militaria as boy but just various bits and bobs of no real value.
My interest in German WW2 items originates from the fact that both my great grand father and grandfather served in the war on the German side.
My great grandfather in WW1 and WW2 where he received the iron cross second class and the standard frontline combatant medal.
And my late grandfather served in the panzer devision he fought at Stalingrad where he lost 3 toes due to frostbite. From the little info I was able to gather it seems to be the 4th panzer devision but I am not sure.
my grandfather on the Dutch side fought in WW2 as well apparently he joined the German side and at some point escaped a camp with a german captain but the family is unwilling to tell me what he did and where. my grandmother says she will tell us when he passes away.
After the weekend I will see if I can get some pictures up of my meagre collection. And will see if I can post the pictures of my great grandfathers medals and picture of him in his luftwaffe feldwebel uniform. I also have a picture of another family member of whom I am not sure what uniform he is in.
Anyway, this site so far has been a treasure trove of information thank you very much.
