Are these items going to be auctioned off or sent to other museums?

          Allied displays?,

Again beautiful pictures, in this way we are still able to enjoy this beautiful museum a bit even when its gone. I only see Axis displays do they also have any Allied displays in the museum?.

Don't bother making an offer for the Waffen-SS camouflaged field cap with the insignia on it in the picture above. I have no confidence in it's originality. With that said, one might take great caution if dealing with the museum for some of their goodies. Many museums have reproductions in their collection. These are often donated and accepted as originals, or they intentionally buy a reproduction to fill a hole. I think a lot of museums figure that they are the experts in this field and that 99.9% of visitors wouldn't know good from bad anyway. I've seen some really strange things put together with even stranger captions! So be careful.

                  Hello,
after the closure of the museum, all the collection will be sold in an auction runned by the german auction house Hermann Historica. Auction should be in early 2008 (not sure yet)
I guess that before the auction, potential buyers are allowed to have a look on the items before taking part or not in the sale.
You're right doc, in the entrance of the museum on the right side, there is a small area where they sell some militaria. Last week-end, they had for instance two greatcoats, one Heer EM late war and one KM officer from coastal artillery and a very nice Luftwaffe HBT Feldbluse (stripped but mint).
I wish i was just rich enough to make some room in this museum in order to get my small collection in it, carry on the good woork and enjoy the stuff for the rest of my life

Meindert, for some allied display follow the link posted by Mark (thanks for your offer Mark, $1000 was a good start, too sad it's gone... )
                  ciao!

No problem J...I guess I realized most people might want to see the contents go up for auction. How sad is it Philippe LeLaurain's partner/succesor died a year after opening the museum? All and all just a sad thing for the people of the area and the tourists...not to mention Mr. LeLaurain and his life's work. I'm really suprised a benefactor hasn't stepped up, but maybe I'm overestimating the desirability of military museums...just not cost effective I guess.

                          Hello doc,
I went to the museum three or four times. Only once they didn't have anything interesting for sale. I have bought a very nice Luftwaffe M37 mapcase from them. Last weekend the Heer greatcoat was priced at 500 euro (a bit high), the HBT Luftwaffe Feldbluse was at 600E (good price), and i didn't check the KM greatcoat price. I wish they had some fieldgear or personal equipment, but nothing...
                          ciao!
