                Hello Mark,

Thanks for posting your faded 40 Pz. Gren. Halfar field cap.

Its a truly superb example and proof that there is still in this day and age a chance of finding something as special as this in untouched condition.

Have a great day up there in the sand pit.

                All the best
                Paul l k.

                  Hi Paul,
Great to hear from you. I hope all's well down there in Dunna's?
It's a year on and I still get that feeling when I view the cap.
                  Take Care

                      Thanks for that Paul

The OR's hat has been shown before (page 188) but the photos have since disappeared. The officers hat is a later acquisition made by Robert Lubstein and dated 1941.

Outstanding examples,Lubstein officer cap with Pioneer soutache is extremely rare, any chance of some shots of the liner and stamps
                        Thx for posting

                          Agree+1

The Pioneer screams Lubstein from just the first couple photos

Excellent additions to this outstanding thread.

Thanks for your your kindly comments guys.

Notice the silence from the usual crew is deafening, they are usually gushing profusely with unrestrained enthusiasm over any little thing that someone posts.

BTW Paul is going to post some pics of the stamps, liner etc when he gets a chance.

                              Hello,

Not sure who the usual crew are these days.
An interesting cap. It may just be me but I'm thinking that the cap may have been an em's upgraded to officer with the wire around the crown and turn up added later. The join on the side of the turn up where the wire goes in just doesn't have the fine sewing that I'd expect to see from the Lubstein factory. I've added a photo of one of my caps alongside yours to show what I'm talking about.
Another question regarding the soutache, is there evidence of a previous soutache application because, once again, the soutache on this one doesn't look factory applied to me.
Has the eagle been reapplied? I usually look for a particular details with Lubstein factory applied eagles but can't see it in these photos.
Better photos may reveal that I'm wrong.

Don't take the above as criticism of your cap. An officer cap that I have originally had a factory applied signals soutache but this appears to have been replaced at unit level with a pioneer soutache (which was also removed later). I also did have a pioneer Carl Halfar a few years ago that had unit applied soutache.

                              Regards,

                              Mark

P.S. Erwin, nice items posted by Paul on your behalf in the other threads. I especially like the traditions badge as there is plenty of evidence of their use on tropical caps in North Africa.
