Thought I would post a few photos from a photo album and tunic removed 287/288 Sonderverband patch that belonged to Reinhard Lawrenz. The photo album traces Reinhard's life from a school boy in the 1930s to his later years in the 1970s which I think is pretty neat. He trained in Potsdam, Germany where the Sonderverband was first raised in July 1941. From there he fought in North Africa and photos show him at El Alemain. He escaped North Africa via injury the photos show and joined the Sonderverband 287 in 1943 in Greece. His sonderverband patch has been denazified but still a rare original.
The first portrait pic was probably taken on leave in Italy or Greece as this is a common studio pose from there.

luftwaffe tropical shirt, factory breast eagle has been removed and loops added for the metal eagle, possibly period done, shoulder boards are brown piped for signals

do not know what the writing represents, but can see the colour difference from being tucked in

                thanks

                        Hi Mark,

Glad you like. The example your asking about is a very nice CTD 1941 example. Here's a reverse photograph.

                              Hi Andy

Great photos of Reinhard. Agree first one is when he is on leave, first thought was upon deployment to Afrika, but the AKCT is already been awarded. Notice how he has changed in the later 2nd pattern photos including his different belt, loss of weight etc.
Can't quite tell if there is a soutache on his M40 in first photo, but it looks like the first pattern tunic may have dark piping on shoulderboards and in the later photos it appears to be a much lighter color piping. Do You know his vocation within his SVB unit(s) ?

Those are some Outstanding Flying Eagles and nice LW Pith too
The Eagle in the fore-ground of post # 1451 is most unusual with the gap filled in, this is an early two prong one maybe ?

                              with regards
                              Tim

                                Hi Tim,

Thanks, I've made a thread in the FJ forum about these birds..

Yes, the one with the filled in gap has 2 prongs..., I personally think it's a later type though, the other 3 buntmetal ones are better qualty and heavier ..
The material is rather "cheap" and thin, not zink, but the quality is less than the other birds.., also the details are more poor, the finish is rather tough though.., my feelings are more that these are the better mid to later war types, but I can't back it up..
This type normally has 2 prongs, but I've seen a similar original type with opened gap, but that one had 3 prongs..( improved ? )
This particular type has been faked heavily recently and they're all over the place, it comes with 3 soft-soldered on round prongs and the material is rather soft and will melt in a flame..
Already noticed a few new fakes put on helmets at sites of dealers.

                                Jos.
