        DAK Photos

Great photos Walter, interesting to see the removal of soutchade in pic 3, and & pic 1. Looks to be the shadow of soutchade after removal in pic 1. My guess is, the guy in pic one has bleached his tunic and cap.

In my humble opinion the cap shown in the color picture stating that was the one..or one of many used by Mason in the movie Desert Fox, do not look like the one(s) used in the film, the most obvius detail in form and execution been the visor material and shape, the ones used by Mason have what appear to be vulkanfiber visors style and shape, also he used bullion cockade...but...maybe also metal...the photo stills from the movie show very clearly a bullion one. The shape of the top of the visor body is quite particular as is the padding for shape.

The hat you show is the type exactly sold by WW2 Enterprises of S.Louis...years ago which have plastic visors with expose brim stiching, low quality soft metal insignias and shiny/cheap looking piping...the chincords are simply...bad in material and quality...as is the cap body fabric.

Maybe your cap was used in other movies of latter date/production but in my very personal and humble opinion not in the Desert Fox/Mason movie, think that is the reason there where no buyers when you offer it to fellow collectors.

Once more, this is my very peresonal view and opinion taking in consideration the details and execution of the items in question.

many years ago I owned the Generals cap worn by James Mason in the movie Rommel.

The film costumer designer visited Manfred Rommel and copied Rommel Generals cap to make for the movie, as seen in the photo below

I offered it around to several local collectors without success and end up selling on Ebay, it now resides somewhere in the USA

                    Tropical cap ex Pz soutache

Firstly thanhs to Mark G for pointing out this cap started out as a side cap with the bill likely added by a unit tailor.

Fresh from a Arizona vets estate.

                    Comments welcome.
