Hi Stu, the text roughly reads: The Commander of the Navy, Grand Admiral Karl Donitz.

You have been given some really nice items. Buy the old boy a ticket for the next game.

    Cheers, Ade.

Lovely items, that EK is really nice & a lovely story, you must be worthy of them otherwise the vet wouldn't have chosen you, he must have thought about it quite a bit recently & you obviously struck a chord with him.
      Thanks for sharing that, Ant.

            Stu,

Here is an image of a "Donald Duck" cap from the Kriegsmarine.

                  Hi Stu,

Would say all the small metal eagles are off a "donald duck" hat as the picture show which is from the weimar pre 33 perioed hence no eagle / swastika.

The earlier versions had separate roundels, the later both were combined, all should have pins on the reverse.
                  Regards, Rob

thanks everyone for your thoughts spent about 3 hours talking with the man in question hes 80 now dont want to give names, but he was one of the nicest most interesting people i have ever talked too the way he talked about his time in germay was eye opening its a shame so many vet like him are now reaching the end of their days and a lot of these great stories will die with them .
so if you get a chance to spend time talking to a vet do it as you will learn more about the real ww2 in an hour than you will from yrs of reading

forgot to mention the germany book in the background was given to the vet and other members of his regiment when they went to germany as a guide to the country and to read this book open your eyes to the british mentality at the time.
forget the story in this book of what started the war or the helpful german phrases
like(and these are the first 4)
                      1.hands up
                      2.open your hands
                      3.halt who goes there
                      4.give me your papers
but the best is the do`s and dont`s just one or two to give you an idea do`s
1.avoid loose talk and loose contact
                      2.go easy on sschnapps
                      dont`s
1.dont be sentimental if things are tough for the germans they have only themsaelves to blame
2.(and my fav) dont be taken in by surface resemblances between the germans and ourselves!!!!!!!
so totally 1940`s british its frightening
                      stu
