if you wish to see more, by all means let me know.
I have the second and final uniform type worn by Australian forces to show also.
Patrick.
Hows it going?Good to see you collecting aussie stuff, however I would put the 37 pattern pouches on rather than these 44 ones. The 44 would be rarely seen if at all, same for the US m14 pouches,we used our own ones made for the SLR.I will see if I can find 70 dated SLR pouches in my old stuff or at least with mates. The shirts were worn tucked into the pants other than the so called "pixie shirts".I will also try to find you a better bush hat than that one,it looks a bit pogish,
Cheers,Paul.

things are good, hope so with you also.
Regarding the 44 pattern, i have to say that a flick through the Osprey "Vietnam ANZACS" shows the combination i have recreated was not that unusual.
There is also a great shot of an 8RAR member dated 1970(!) during Operation "Petrie", and he has the 44 pattern pouches affixed to his belt around the hips. A further equipment photo also shows the complete webbing kit of an 7RAR soldier who also has 44 pattern pouches mixed in with his kit.
Shots of US M56 can also be found along with a unique one of US M67 too.
Thanks for the tip on the shirt, it shall be remedied .
Patrick.

G'day Patrick,
No worries.I agree you can see pics of 44 stuff, but generally it would seem 37 to be the more predominant including the packs.I am onto a mate of mine to get you some period SLR pouches, bush hat and black GP boots-these would be more likely on an Australian infantryman. It can be your late christmas present,
Cheers,Paul.

GunBunny-
A very cool Christmas card! My brother was in the 1st. Air Cav. in country from '68-'69. I was 12 years old at the time and remember it as one of my saddest Holidays, wishing for his safe return. My mom kept that card too and I still have it. Merry Christmas to all! Mike

Merry Christmas to alll !
Its past now so I can get out the gear and invade the kitchen for a photo shoot !
To add to the great posts already,I thought Id include my Aussie Digger.
The first is the standard issue webbing set up as used in Vietnam.
The pouchs at the front are for use with issued SLR rifle as Patrick has shown
in his top posts....Patrick I must say you have my HUGE envy on that weapon !

The bush hat is dated 1968 and unissued.
Greens dated 1970,webbing is dated from 68 to 72.
<a href="http://www.dsgrant.com/" target="_blank"><img src="http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q35/dsgrant_2006/rightside.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting"></a>
The back pack has one compartment at the top for rations, two small
side ones for personal items, plus one compartment in
the bottom for sleeping gear. The bum bag carried one days rations and
stuff that maybe needed if separated from the large pack. The large pack
has quick release buckles at the front,it was dropped behind the lines when
the platoon was making a head on thrust towards the enemy.
They would be picked up later after contact was broken or supplies were needed.
This side you can see his toggle rope, more canteens, the Aussies carried
as many as 12 water canteens out bush, they didnt take the regular air
resups as did most US field units. This was mainly due to it giving away your position.
So they prefered to resup every 2 weeks when on the usual 4 to 6
week patrols. When resup came it was food, ammo, mail and any replacement gear needed.
A favorite was warm chocolate milk, anything the didnt taste
like plastic was welcome.
They used a mix of Australian and US rations, picking the personal favorites
from both sets and swapping the rest with others.Last edited by dsgrant; 01-10-2007, 07:59 PM.

A great deal of good information there. Not to mention the quality of your pictures.
I for one would like to see some more of the Australian field gear
Hope this fullfills the request in part.

This pic includes the magazines for the SLR rifle, stripper clips with 7.62 rounds.
The silver ones are used when doing training drills and stoppages.
The SLR cleaning kit is included, black plastic bottle for lube,SLR multi tool for
"damage making"to the SLR,"brush useless"for cleaning the weapons outside.
Plus the ever breakable pull thru........Last edited by dsgrant; 12-26-2006, 12:53 AM.
