Painting Mannequins (By Request!)

Here the eyes are 'sketched' inplace and coloured. Note that the lids' inner areas are not yet painted, and all paints I'm using are matt enamels.

Wow! That is one of the best step by step processes I think you've shown us. Great looking mannequin. What would you say the hardest part of customizing a mannequin is? I would guess it is the skintone but I could be wrong.

Needless to say no other details were added until the skin colour was bone dry, then covered in an acrylic satin varnish. This has just been covered in varnish and is drying in direct sunlight.

great work Jeremy. that makes my reconstructive surgury look like childs play. wow, it looked like a shell fragment flew to close to His nose hairs. great turn around, and Mark, some more great tips on blending. I WILL re do my Guys eye lashes and highlights. thats a definite. love how you show the details of "how to do it". really helps Us commoners. Glenn

Just out of curiosity, Mark: How much money do you think you've invested into the hobby, how much does persay and average tunic go for in New Zealand, and most of all, HOW MANY MANNEQUINS DO YOU HAVE???

Hi Steve,
It was a weak moment after I picked up a reversable anorak - so pursued the rest of the kit, right down to the boots (not seen in this photo, of course). The tan/water jacket is the first item of German clothing I bought when I was a shiny eyed 17 year old
Brendon - it all depends on what type of tunic you mean, as prices are as variable here as anywhere else - but still cheaper over-all than in The States or Europe. As for how many mannequins? Not enough, and not enough room to display the ones I have

It's the best way to achieve the desired finish you want - be your own harshest critic. Go back, do it again if you aren't happy with it. If that still doesn't work, go back and do it again. The experience of understanding the process is the key - it is a process which takes days - no instant results. Like your work - really shows a dedication to detail

Mark, having a problem getting paint right, when i try to blend in the red it turns to pink for my liking ... My base coat seems a close match to yours, or maybe my base coat is to pink to start with?

It sounds like your red is a darker number than I use, or your base colour doesn't have enough blue mixed in?
I use - White #34
- Blue #25
- Brown #62
- Red # 132
These are the Humbrol colours I mix for my base - do these match yours?
