Thanx guys, this thread has appeared from nowhere again. The boxes are really easy to make. You create a base box in black and line it on the inside and flat back with acid free mounting board. Any color that you prefer and compliment your display. The ideal size for a tunic box is 86cm high x 75cm wide X 7,5 deep. You than get a frame of your choice to fit over the front of the base box. You can close it permanently or fit hinges to allow the frame to open from the box. You can also use a glass/wood framed door made from wood as alternative for the frame. Use UV protective glass. Make sure you attached a double hanging mechanism on both top sides of the finished box. You can do it yourself, I prefer to use a proffesional framer. In most cases they are very expensive.Hope this helps. Jacques

I am in the process of relocating so I am packing everything . I will take some nice pics before it is broken up as a reminder.

                  Jacques,

Thanks for the frame information. Any frame detail photos that show the construction would be most welcome, like hinging and mounting details and the "black box" portion. I have a talented framer I use often, I use the UV glass and archival quality materials. Not cheap but so worth it.

Also, is the tunic simply on a hanger or do you use other mounting or support for them?

I have a lot of tunics and think this is a brilliant way to get them out of the dark! Good luck on your move. I hope your collection is getting more room.

                  Cheers.

                            Absolutely lovely. Thank you.

Another question, for the medals, straps, ribbons, etc. that are in shadow boxes, how are they mounted?

The tunics are on hangers , some are supported with archival board on the inside and then attached to the mount board with thread. Th medals etc, are attached through slits or gaps in or between separate pieces of mount board, which are glued to the base board. I also never display the original pics or paperwork, only scanned copies. Be careful of natural or other light scources. There is no natural light in this room. Jacques

                                Hi,
I commented on your room and it's still one of the best displays out there and the content is top class something some people can only dream of,
I do have one comment why in a lot of collections do people collect toys/models and dolls? big dolls[manikins] i understand but some collections seem to have action figures,why/
                                Anyway fantastic collection.
                                All the best Merdock
