    Giday Mike,

Firstly, thank you very much for sharing with us some photos of your collection.

Secondly, like Stijn, I too would appreceate it if you would post a scan showing the back of your various glider related badges.

    All the best,

    Ian Tannahill

        Hi Mike,

        Impressive collection, congratulations

Just two questions, what is the luftwaffe badge to the right of the upper Luft GAB and could you tell me the maker of the Flight Engineer badge to the right of that badge. Looks like it has a broad pin.

          Hi,

Images of the reverse of the Segelfliegers attached as requested. Apart from the Juncker Glider Pilot's Badge, non are maker marked. Only one of the enamel "B"s has a number.

Richard, you have enough Pilot's Badges!! The images in the first post are old, I've added 2 x Pilot's and 1 zinc PO since then.

Philippe, the "strange" badge is from a LW Lanyard. The R/O does have a broad pin - good eyes. It's a zincer and has a maker mark I've never seen on any other badge. Sometimes I think it's a very early repro because it is so different but every time I examine it the detail, the quality of the hinge/pin/catch construction, the zinc basemetal and gut feeling make me think it's genuine. In any case it's a sentimental favourite and will always have a place in my collection (OK, I'm biased on this one badge!).

Can anyone spot the repro LW Flak Badge which I've since weeded out?

          Regards

Impressive is an understatement, I gave up counting.

If at all possible could you take some pic's of the PAB+Box and a very interesting West Wall in a box. I know spanges and WB's came in boxes similar but not this medal.

Does the box have an LDO mark on the inside ? Theres another box variation I've got to find now.

Your collection just makes me want to go out and spend some money.

            Kind regards,

            Marcus

                Confirmed

                Hello Mike,

Thank you for the additional pictures => exactly as I tought, very nice badge in what looks a very good condition ( congratulations on that rare birdy ) as far as I can on the pictures ( too small to look into them in detail )

In regards towards the small Glider profiency badges => I also always tought that my pieces where unmarked untill I looked at them on day and I found the following possible maker marks :

                D
L/11 ( or at least this is what I believe it is as it so tiny and on a very hard place to see )

                Cordial greetings,
my collectionfield : German glider pilots

                  Hi,

Marcus, some pics as requested. The bronze PAB is a Frank & Reif - standard generic box. The "West Wall Medal" box is also a generic LDO box - very dark blue in colour. This is the way they came and it's quite possible the medal and box were "married". Also, I know these LDO boxes are reproduced but I've never taken the time to research this one. I bought them in 1987 if that's of any use.

Christian, if you read through one of my replies earlier in the thread your question re the cross on the wound badge will be answered.

Stijn, I'll check more closely when I get back home - I literally have to fly right now so I won't be able to provide any more images for some time!

                      Thanks for the info Mike.

And in answer to your little quiz, my vote would go to the second one in the left row, just above the PB

Can I pick something from your collection if I got it right

                                Hi,

I wanted to share this group of interesting items. As far as I know, they belong together and weren't "married" but it is undocumented so I don't know that for sure. The only thing that sticks out as slightly anomalous is the clean ribbon on the EK2, however the medal is also in good condition so these may simply have been stored by the recipient and a ribbon worn on his jacket as was normal.

                                Other interesting things to note;

                                - Damage to the AFRIKA cuff-title - ?shrapnel and ??staining (I'm not sure I want to know what sort of staining!) - The lettering may have been cleaned at some stage as well.
                                - EK1 - L/18 marked - about the only "standard" item in the group! The EK2 is unmarked.
                                - Silver Wound Badge - marked L14 (no slash), thin, in zinc but with an early style catch - it shares the same obverse die characteristics with L22 wound badges. The hinge looks messy but does no appear to have been repaired.
                                - Bronze PAB by EWE - uncommon maker, worn finish - it's not readily apparent but the catch end is unusually blunt, not pointed - it isn't imaged but the interesting thing is that the pointed and it at the HINGE end (someone must have been asleep on the pin bending jig that day)!!
                                - German-Italian medal in zinc on a court mount. It's been loosely resewn in it's current "dangly" location but the medal has at some stage been sewn much higher up, in a more central location. Underneath the German-Italian court mount ribbon there is blue long service ribbon, indicating to me this has been converted from a single long service mount. The backing plate is steel.

                                Enjoy!

                                Regards
                                Mike K
