    Mike K's Bits'n'Pieces

    Hi,

    I was asked to put up a few images of my collection so here they are. I don't display as such, I keep most things in old converted cutlery cases for portabability (also a convenient size for a safe). For ease of display, I prefer uncased items but certainly appreciate a nice case. I'm also one of those collectors who prefer worn items as opposed to mint. Anyway, after days of trying, and even using a tripod, I've managed to produce my standard poor quality digital camera images. Here they are (seven images, they may take a while to load);

    First, the Iron Crosses (and a few that shouldn't really be there!). I also fully agree with whoever said that you can't have too many EKs!;

    Next, my non-grouped Luftwaffe;

    Next, my Kriegsmarine badges;

    My small collection of Heer;

    A painful WW2 gathering, with a few odd bit's on the bottom row;

    Some general awards (not really my area of interest these days);

    And finally, some odd bits of colour;

    I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I do.

    Regards
    Mike K

      Wow, Mike! Massive attack!

      If it is possible and you have close up pics I would love to take a look at the minty numbered PABs and GABs, especially the 25 PAB!

        Also noticed that you have two WWI U Boat Badges (if it isn´t the same badge in two pictures) and two enamel type Silesian Eagles 1st class. If you ever want to get rid of one of those, I stand in line!

          Very NICE "Odd Bits of Color!"

          I also note that on the ribbon of the Wehrmacht 4 Years Medal you do NOT have the Wehrmacht eagle-- but the vastly rarer R.A.D. 18 Years Long Service Eagle: square stumpy wings, and its head facing LEFT as looked at, not RIGHT. (If it's facing right you've got the FEMALE R.A.D. 18, which I've never seen, period!)

          Sadly, because your camera snaps are too far away, you will have to pack up all that nice Imperial stuff (oh, OK, you can throw in the R.A.D. device too) to me... to be scanned PROPERLY!

                    Dear Carl,

                    If I might chime in.....that one is a myth badge. It is said to be a wound badge for the chaplains (Heeresgeistliche), which is bogus. I think I remember it was made for a special ceremonial occasion for the fallen. Because of the cross, it was said to be the chaplains wound badge. It is a contemporary badge, just not an award per se, let alone a wound badge (although it uses the WB wreath). Hope I remembered this right.

                    Cheers, Frank H.

                      Re the wound badge

                      Hi,

                      Many thanks for your comments on my collection. Frank, if you PM me with your e-mail address I'll forward some decent scans of my numbered assault badges, Schlesiischer Adler and Imperial U-boat Badge (I only have the one, some items from the Imperial grouping snuck into other shots though - only 6 though).

                      For Frank and Carl, yes, it is not a Chaplain's Wound Badge or any sort of official award, WW1, WW2 or otherwise. I bought it full well knowing the story, as a curiousity. In Hamelman's "German Wound Badges" he presents some research done in Germany by a Herr Gerd M. Schultz. The latter found out that a large stock of genuine 1939 BLACK wound badges had been stored in a monastery (Kloster Weingarten near Bodensee). To raise money for repairs to the monastery, they cut out the centre of the badges and added the cross between 1946 and 1948 (no silver or gold are mentioned as either being in the monastery or having been converted). The only numbers of cenverted crosses given is "several hundred" so in that respect they are uncommon. Hamelman even states that they are being faked (cast repros)!! If you want some clearer images, PM me with your e-mail address.

                      Regards
                      Mike K

                          Thanks Frank--Mike.

                          Thanks for the info on the badge. I had'nt heard of a chaplains wound badge anyway--but still an interesting piece.

                          Words fail me on the rest of your outstanding collection. I better quit typing or I might droooooool over Gregs keyboard from looking at your VERY nice collection.

                          Many thanks--Carl.

                            Hi,

                            I've been putting this little collection together for a while now. My scanner is finally back online so I thought I'd share an image. I really like the blue enameling on these. The shades of blue vary and it won't surprise me to find out one or two are post war but I'm happy with them all the same.

                            Regards
