    Aux Cruiser Sterling

    Looks good

The longitude and latitude gradient lines were added later by hand or not as in this case.

I thought Germany usually used the 900 mark to denote sterling rather than the word Sterling. Is this a private purchase item that I'm just not farmiliar with?

          Hi

I just have to ask, is this one really original??

I have collect for many years but never bump in to this one.

Is this for real? I haven't seen this before. The details look poor, I am taking great interest in this discussion. I wouldn't want this in my collection.
The catch looks like a good job but, still I wouldn't want this.

            Regards,
            JustinG

I have looked at the post reference that NormF posted. The photo of the sailor with the Aux cruiser badge without the latitude/longitude lines was interesting.
I still feel that this marking of sterling has me questioning this piece.

                Hello Sergey,

you can be sure, its a 100% original one!

The photos of the both Sterling silver auxiliary cruiser badges in the post # 69 are from my collection (I use the name "monsun" in other forums where I have shown the two badges first).

                Regards,

                    very interesting!

the little fellow on the prow of the boat looks asian to me

Note also the japanese-style figures instead of the Viking warriors.

I can understand the comments of collectors who have never seen one of these before. Carsten Baldes told me he was offered one of these for a very modest sum at one of the German shows and his colleague thought he was mad to buy such an obvious fantasy item so he told him to go around to see Detlev and tell him he had an Auxilliary Cruiser marked "Sterling" and see what happens. Within minutes Detlev was on Carsten's stand with a wad of cash and bought the badge giving Carsten an instant and substantial profit.

Hello friends, thanks for your opinions!
This badge was bought recently in Germany.
May be someone else will show yours own badges or photos with this badge?

                          Best regards,
                          Sergey

                              Great badge,and 100% original,IMO.
This type of award will be featured in Gordon's upcomong book 0n KM awards.

One that is always on my want list. These Japanese madge bades are the "icing on the cake" for a HK collector.
However, they tend to demand a very high price.

These awards were made by an unknown Jeweler in Yokohama,Japan at the request of the German Naval Attache in Tokyo,Admiral Wennecker.

They were awarded to crewmen on the Hilfskreuzers that were operating in the Far-East,notably the THOR and MICHEL.
They can be found in tombak or Silver.

                              I think Mike has a tombak/brass example.

                              Regards,Martin.
