        Erich Hartmann's 1957 ribbon bar.

To be honest, this is the first time I've seen it

Hello Sepp, Super nice pic of his ribbon bar ! I saw it during a visit to his home. Also his Diamonds which were attached to a 57 Knights Cross and his Pilot/Obser. badge with diamonds. I wish I would have had more time to look them over, but Hartmann kind of huried me along with my visit. He was very nice & polite to me, but I could tell he just wanted me to leave as soon as possible. I think he was tired of all the "collectors" visits. (and letters). Tom

The information you give here Tom is always excellent! And I'm guessing you are right about Hartmann's tiredness about collectors. He kept all his wartime medals?

I remember him saying he did not have his war time Knights Cross. It along with his "Diamonds" were taken from him by a GI and he never saw them again. These were his "paste" type set. The Diamonds I saw were his Original set that were stored in a bank in his hometown after they were awarded and that is the reason they survived the war. Tom

Honor guard for the funeral of Konrad Adenauer in 1967. The soldiers are wearing '57 type badges.

I really can't remember Tom... I have a huge file of photos gathered on the Internet and books. But I tried to give credit to whom it deserves (when possible).

                        Thanks

                                Hello Tom,

I am absolutely sure that you are mistaken here. His wartime cross survived the captivity as well as his B-type Diamonds. The A-typewas always home. The story of the RK was already covered in the book "Holt Hartmann vom Himmel", the sets are shown in my RK book. I wasat the home of the current owner and saw the pictures of Hartmann, the new owner and the medals (RK, EL, ELmS, Diamonds, Flugbuch, pilot and observer wit diamonds and both his 1957 ribbon bars, he had two)
