      Hi Jon
Its 13 cm long and 3 cm wide,I think it will turn on when the light
on vehicle is on,and will still be on when the little hatch is closed.

I have the same one in my Porsche 911 😃

Great design if they still used them in the 80s

            Thanks Jorn.

Mein gott, they still make them. Now all one has to do is work out how to order one. Thanks Hell raiser.

Look for 2nd hand porsche parts sites in the uk, they are not expensive. They quickly create shorts and most people leave them out

                PS

On the 911, the light switches off when the lid is closed
Circuit is powered when the lights are on.

Yes, there in the engine compartment of the 911, 912, 930 and only turn on or off when the cover is rotated, they have power all the time, even when the key is off so the engine is lighted for repairs if needed. They cause shorts because they rarely ever get used, so they rust at the connections, then short to ground on the lid. 35 years of owning a Porsche shop! The Wartime ones were used all over military vehicles, most to light up interiors, dashboards etc. of cars, trucks, halftracks, tanks etc. If yours turns off with a pin switch, its not factory. Only the front hood has the pin to turn off the light.
