    Wehrmacht R 35 BMW Motorcycle Value

    Although I don't have permission to show pictures I'd like to know what a functioning BMW R35 motorcycle is worth in running but unrestored condition? Bike does not have a passenger fender seat but does have restored, tan metal, saddlebags.

    Is 10k unreasonable?

    The R35 is a "very dagerous" type of motorbike... as it was produced in a more or less identical version as EMW in post war times and as there are many reproduction parts many of the existing "R35" are a mixmash of wartime BMW parts and other stuff. R35 type bikes of that kind came in large numbers into the vintage bike market after the iron curtain came down, mostly rstored to a civilian optic, looking original on first sight...so I would spend money only after the bike is investigated by a real expert ...

    P.S.: The same advice is suitable for other BMW models and also bikes like the NZ350 wich had a long postwar production history as ISH...

      Here's another cool image from the web! Yes I agree, indeed a good warning! Many R35 BMW's are in fact EMW (East German Post war) conversions!
      As I understand it: after the end of World War II, the BMW plant in Eisenach found itself in the Soviet occupation zone. However this didn't stop the Soviets/East Germans
      producing bikes badged as BMW until some where around 1952 when a lawsuit from the West German BMW company forced a change of name which became EMW.

          Not that anyone cares; FWIW as far as I am concerned,It is not an EMW until the frame has the rear shock.Most of the "EMW's" were made from BMW stocks of parts on BMW tooling in a BMW factory by BMW Employees or unlucky participants used by BMW. Just my thoughts on the subject.

            The R35 on OP's picture most likely is a postwar specimen painted in feldgrau, or mismatch of wartime and postwar parts. True, it isn't restored, but it has been repainted and aluminium parts have been poorly cleaned with steel brush. The tell-tale signs for postwar R35 are the sump guard and gas tank with large cap. Frame and engine numbers for prewar and wartime R35's begin with number "3" (3xxxxx) and for postwar "2". Also the frame number for wartime R35 is located near the rear reducer (on the flat part) and postwar R35 has it's frame number on the top right (angled) frame rail. Also the rear light is totally wrong and it's missing the correct number plate holder. In this (pictured) state, it would bring max 4-4.5k € in Europe. To be 100% sure with what we are dealing with here, I'll need detailed pictures from various parts and numbers. I'm an owner of two R35s...
