certainly need a lot of work and money spending on it to restore it

bit like mine was really in terms of the hull condition

Depending on the price for restored Kettenkrads and the fact that more or less everything is availible as repro parts from Lehar company this vehicle for shure will see his resurection!! Using the dataplate and some of the better parts of the hull you can build up a true and authentic original vehicle... much more admired (and priced) then a 100% repro ...

yes, you are right, almost everything is available but at a cost and a lot of hunting around.

wheels come up on ebay, tracks also from time to time but it will need an engine, gearbox, differential, air straightener, fan assembly which are a bit rare nowadays.

it also needs a front fork and lots and lots of welding.

not sure it even has torsion bars and axles.

very big job.....possibly 40,000 to restore it maybe even more but well worth it as they are selling for serious money now. 100,000 pounds or more

would i take it on again...............difficult one to answer that, probably not.

the original vehicle from a dataplate argument is a totally different thing. is it original??? is it a repro, depends upon the definition of original.

in my opinion nothing can ever be original. It may have original wartime parts but unless they are the parts it was fitted with when it left the factory, it is not original.

i would say to anyone, my kettenkrad is about 80% original with repro parts to make it complete running and representitive vehicle

Philip, your totaly right ... a looking at a restored vehicle you always have problems to decide this... therefor the few true originals - vehicles near to 100% comlpete and in their pre 1945 colour - are valued much higher then a perfectely restored one ... 55.000 € for a KS 750 ore 5.000€ for a DKW NZ for example.
