Stange pair of glasses.

This set of glasses belonged to a (fighter)pilot..
It's a rather strange model and I can't figure things out about the pieces of glass and why they're located this way,they're glued in the frame.
The nosebridge is kind of distanceholder and has 2 screw for adjustment in width.
In theorie I can think of the sunlight coming from the left ..,in fact I've no more clues.
Any info,thoughts are welcome.
