Kienzle Clock Information

Hello,
I recently acquired this clock with a grouping of German equipment. I would very much appreciate any information you may have. This clock runs beautifully. Certainly a well made piece. I have looked on this forum as well as the internet and can find no consistent information. Is it indeed WW2 era? Is it for a vehicle? Plane? What is the purpose of the red/white flag at the bottom that denotes the seconds? The sliding door on the side purpose?

This is a vehicle clock. Used mostly in trucks. Military and civil.

Thank you. Did the orange/white part that designates the seconds serve any other pupose? Seems like a lot of effort when a third hand on the clock for seconds would have sufficed.
