    1934 Kochgeschirr HWP

    Evening WAF,

I bought this HWP 34 marked Kochgeschirr from Fjm44 a few weeks back and had a question about it. This is a very early dated example and features aluminum body, steel handles and removed upper loop. Does anyone know why these were painted black? Were these still intended for Wehrmacht troops? Thanks!

WH standard color for early kits. Same color as the (M1910) political model of this period.

      Mike,

Nice colorized pic! I was aware of the political kits being a black color. However, I do have in my possession a 1929 dated Reichswehr mess kit in a feldgrau, not black. I was just wondering why they went from feldgrau, to black, to feldgrau again.

By my observations, the pre-war military issued kits were painted either black or feldgrau dependent upon manufacturer. The total change to only feldgrau occurred at some point early war I believe.

It would be neat to find some sort of documentation on the switches, if there are any at all. Thank you for your answers.

            I have read:
"Early models were painted a dark matte grey also known as Feldgrau. This color was common for kits from around 1935 to 1941. At the end of April 1941, order HM 41, No.435 was issued. This stated that the color was to be changed to an olive-drab color known as Graugrün."
