Very kind to give your opinion, although I have to say I disagree with you, I am not the owner of this, just was looking to buy it. If you look at the mess kit you ll find that it has traces of wear and in some areas there are rust places mixed with the paint, this to me indicates that the paint is original and has somehow erased with time. Would be interesting to hear other opinions

This model is not standard for the Wehrmacht IMO. I would say paramilitar use. Doesn't seem to be dated nor have a maker's code as expected on Wehrmacht items.

The paint is not original. I suspect it is unmarked.

Tropical mess kits are painted an olive tan color, like certain canteen cups. The ones i have seen, as well as those I have in my collection, are dated 1941.

This is a WW1 style (m1910) mess kit, used by political org.'s in the 1930's, but (rarely) seen in use in WW2. As Frederik says on his FJM44 site, "This tall, pre-war model was most probably made and used by the Waffen-SS. The usual prewar political models for the Hitlerjugend, Allgemeine-SS and SA where finished in a black paint. The one(s) being produced in Olive paint were most probably produced and used by the Waffen-SS as can be seen on many wartime pictures".

This model shown looks to be a transitional one - it has the riveted steel loops on the sides like the older all-steel versions, rather than the cast aluminum ones from the 1930's. The paint could have been done at any time, but highly unlikely this saw use in Africa. A nice kit none the less.

Sorry to bother, but have you ever posted pictures of tan mess-kits from your collection on WAF? Moreover, do you think that it was just one occasional 1941 batch and this type was not widely used on southern theatre?
