    Grey KM Gas mask canister

    Postwar paint?

It was found in old house in Volgograd (Stalingrad). The gas mask is second type, 1936 and Reichswehr bird stamped.

Don't be afraid to comment guys.

The shape of this can reminds me of one southern front canister that was posted here in WAF six month ago. Keept in a barn or old hous for some time.

The feldpost number is 13. Kompanie of Infanterie-Regiment (mot.) 92. That was part of 60. Infanterie-Division (mot).

To be honest i dont like the paint. Gas masks painted in and outside are always suspicious. Not a natural flaking too IMO. Light grey camo doesnt make sense. I have some dark grey canisters from Panzergrenadier units but that colour is not for me. The name and FP tag looks convincing but these can be faked easily. Prominent example of post war added FP was a JG53 gas mask set in german ebay on monday (camo job was good in that case).

First of the most; gasmask is the GM 30 tyle of the FIRSt type gasmask.
Second of all ; the canister in M38 type canister.

So the gasmask itself doesm't match the cnister too well.
Offcourse there were a diffrent 'repairs', which in the end, matches trough the war diffrent styles gasmasks and canisters, because some canisters were damaged and some gasmasks were damaged etc.

But originaly it was not the set ( at least from very begining ).
The FP number says the soldier was the part of ( depending from time of service ) :

        13332
        (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) 13. Kompanie Infanterie-Regiment 92
        (25.1.1943-31.7.1943) gestrichen (Stalingrad)
        (1.8.1943-23.3.1944) 21.2.1944 Stab u. 1.-4. Kompanie
        Sicherungs-Bataillon 547
        (24.3.1944-6.11.1944) 5.7.1944 Stab u. 1. u. 3.-4. Kompanie
        Sicherungs-Bataillon 547
        [2. Kompanie wurde Fp.Nr. 26423 A]
        (7.11.1944-Kriegsende) 12.2.1945 gestrichen.

The main question is ; where it was found ?

The paint suggest KM use, while the FP number says nothing about KM unit, so IMO postwar paint ( specialy when can see, that it has been overpainted inside, as well as outside, in th same shade of grey ).

        Mix of diffrent parts.

You must have something with your eyes, when you compare TAN painted canister ( painted only OUTSIDE ) with GREY painted canister ( painted IN and OUT in grey ). More you have a very 'bright' imagination when you can connect both of them ( in some sort of way ).

IMO your might be some sort of way of postwar conservation by painting in grey ( see this in many cases of soviet 'conservation' ways ).

            Thanks for the comment guys.

My eyes are fine thank you. I was not talking about the color in this case. I was comparing the rust that was coming through the paint that looked similar.

And yes I had my doubts in this canister
