    Unusual MP pouches

    Hello,
Please can someone tell me what the pouches worn here are? The photo was taken in France.
    Thanks for looking,
    Kerry.

      Hello Gran Sasso,
      Thank you for your observation.
it was 1940, here is another part of the photo, showing early war uniforms. the 1936 pattern tunics and M34 caps with the soutache still in place. Also the tri-colour national decal on the helmet.
      Perhaps more curious.
      Kerry,

If it was in 1940 in France then it must be at the end of 1940. It is clearly winter as there is snow to be seen. So october - november - december 1940? Interesting pouches indeed...

          Pictures.

Hello, not sure that the picture was taken in France. The civilian clothes from the man looks more german, specialy jacket and hat.

Also his moustache, very german style - cant imagine any french man wearing that style...

When were the earliest award dates for the general assault badge?

Thanks folks. I have to say, I was told it was France, but as you say, the clothing etc do not look French, more German/Austrian. However, the uniform detail does point towards very early war, too early for use of Italian camouflaged material. As to the General Assault badge, it was instituted in early June 1940, so not out of the question for that year.
              Thanks again,
              Kerry.

                  Gran Sasso,
No need to shout, it simply illustrates that the photo cannot be before June '40.
