Gas Mask Name & Unit Mark

    Hi all,

I am having a great difficulty reading the germanic writing on this name tag, and wanted to see if anyone could help correct what I think is written?

    I was able to read " Ranonier Karl Zollmarsch 1 bttr. Feftungs-flatabt. 31 ".

Lastly, is anyone familiar with these abbreviations? Any help would go a long way!

    Thank you in advance,
    William

I believe the first word is actually Kanonier and the last line is 1. Bttr. Festungs-Flakabt. 31. My German isn't that great, but I think it translates to (gunner in the first battery of fortress antiaircraft battalion 31)
    Regards
    Bern

Here you can find the history of it - http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/...ment/FFR31.htm. It's in German, but it basically says that it only existed as an abteilung (battalion) in Trier from July 1938 until August 1939 before being renamed as a regiment. Always cool to find named items like this, congratulations!

Thank you all very much for the information! I now have a clear understanding of where this gas mask may have been used, making this set altogether one of my favorites to date.

Hopefully sometime in 2020 I can make a trip to Trier and take some photos of the set there

Thank you again for all the help!

                Sincerely,
                William
