    M34 "PONY FUR" BACKPACK, help.

    Hi,

    Could someone help me with this backpack?
    I think it’s a M34, but is it for the GBJ or LW?

    The backpack was found at the train station of Bjørnfjell, near Narvik, by my uncle.
    There were paratroopers from the Luftwaffe and soldiers from Dietls GBJ at and around the station during the spring of 1940.

    So if anyone have some more info regarding the backpack, that would be great!

    Kind regards
    vonLind

        Hi anmarlodz,

        In April 1940 the German destroyer Z2 Georg Thiele was beached after several hits, in a fjord close to Bjørnfjell. Then the crew ran up the mountains.
        It’s a distance of ca 16 km from the fjord to Bjørnfjell, where E.Dietl had his HQ. This may explain why there was a M34 from the Kriegsmarine in a mountain railway station.

        Kind regards

          The ink markings says "Beschaffungsamt für Heer und Marine", so this is not a proof that this backpack belonged to a Kriegsmarine member.

            Thank’s Glaser for the information.

            There were 2000 Gebirgsjäger, 1000 Fallschirmjägers, 2600 sailors
            plus 290 special soldiers that came through Sweden.
            No Heer was stationed on Bjørnfjell during the battle.

              Gebirgsjäger = Wehrmacht = Heer
