Southern front camo gas mask can out of the Hürtgenwald

Great pick up today. Came out of a shed in Hürtgenwald. The seller (a farmer) picked it up there in the late 60s. Kept it in a barn with other pieces he found there too (last picture). Very authentic example possibly camoed from a trooper in france! So happy to be the first collector who has it in hands.

now thats what a I call and authentic camo, nice one.
All my collecting life I am skeptic on all these camo's .. either helmets, cans etc. I try not to judge them ant not to buy them, but this is the one that i would buy if I had a chance. Or even better - I would love to first hand find one like that myself

Tan painted equipment is too often presumed to be DAK or Italian front. Great relic of the "death factory" (Huertgenwald).

Thanks Michael! I wouldnt buy a camo helmet or can from a Dealer. But even woodwork finds can be messed up today. This example speaks for itself and I hadnt to look twice.

Thank you! The owner lives near the Hürtgenwald and didnt have to tell a story when he sold it for 25 Euro. So i have no doubts he was speaking the truth.

                  Another great find! Congratulations

Small question; do you leave it like this or do you threat it ( in view of the flaking of the camo sheme?)

                  Best regards,

Thank you Jan. I dont treat them. 20 degrees and a dry environment without sunlight exponation. Thats it!
