    Canteen

Thanks to those that verified the Y straps and pouches as original. Goes to show not everything that Regimentals sold was crap.

Anyway here is a mess tin...looks in too good nick to be WW2 issue. Is it original or some post war issue?

Hi Gary, I see you have finally sorted out all that kit you said was hiding under your bed

Is there any markings on the tin at all? Have you looked at where the wire handle fits onto the pot? Sometimes they are marked there.

                Cheers, Ade.

If there's no markings, it COULD be immediate postwar. I had a bundeswehr one that was dimensionally EXACTLY the same as wartime ones. It came in greased paper. I know there were unmarked wartime ones, but the fact that there are cloned postwar makes it tough.

Of course it's a mess tin...don't know what I was thinking. If it is original then it is in near mint condition - it's sustained more scratches under in 15 years under my bed than since 1945!

Are there any detailed construction pointers to look for? I can post close ups of any section if that would help.

                      Hi Adrian,

Only because I've moved bedrooms and had to move the bed! I even found a 1916 BSA SMLE MKIII* I forgot I had. Oh, and a 1943 marked K98. And I know there's and MP44 and MP40 somewhere as well. Perhaps they are still at my Mum's house... I've been left 10 years.....

                      Cheers,
                      Gary.

P.S. Do you know anything about Army infantry officers Schirmutze's? I found one of those as well!

Jeez, Gary, you haven't found a spare 1st pattern DAK tunic under there have you? Maybe some tropical laced boots? Man, you must have some gear if you forgot THAT stuff was there !

                          Hi Ade\Steve,

I can't find any markings on it. Does that mean it more likely to be post-war?

                          Cheers,
                          Gary.

Hi Gary, I would tend to think so, but please don't rely on my opinion alone on this as there are many more experienced kit collectors than me

The cap I can help you with.

                            Cheers, Ade.
