Latewar M34 tornister tan fabric with red stripe

Hi all,

At a antiques fair I managed to buy this 1943 dated M34 Affe. It has a nice tan fabric with a red strip running along the back and on the inside. the manufacturer is dny 1943

Is this a rare type? It's the first i've come across like this. Sadly someone removed the straps for fastening the zelt on the side of the pack, but for the rest it's pretty much complete. It even still has the messkit bag.

It is a medic backpack. It is quite popular. Unfortuately find a red cross for it would be very hard if not imposible.

Marcin, were all these late packs used by medics? I know this maker is found with the red cross machine sewn to it.

Well, all I had or have seen, of this type ( made with tan cloth with red stripe ) have had traces of red cross applied at some point, so IMO all tan ones are medics backpacks.
Other thing is the fact that this particular maker ( 'dny' ) is maker of medic stuff related items ( like medics belt puches, medics side bags, medics backpacks etc. ).

Nice to know what this was. I checked my tornister again, and on the inside of the flap I can make out the stichmarks of the removed red cross emblem. On the outside you can't see the 'ghostmarks' anymore.

Any idea what this would be worth in it's current condition?

I fully agree. And 'dny' is indeed a more common maker for these backpacks . This three letter code stands for the Bollmann company, which IMHO exclusively produced medical kit so definatly medical backpack at origine.

And as always on the DNY Tornister,the port straps are mounted upside down.
Don't know why but on each example I've saw it's always the same.

Good to know about the straps! When I bought this, they were upside down as well! I have placed them the correct way, but will change is again

I assumed this was done post war. It keeps on getting better!
