    Flare box help?

    Hello everyone,
    I picked this up a couple years ago at an auction and clearly it seems to be for flares, but is it world war two? What did it come off of? also it seems to have a dull paint brushed over it? I have a lot of questions but no answers

    eager to find something out about it!

    Thanks! help would be much appreciated as I'm a young collector!

      As far as I know it is for flare ammo inside an amoured vehicle...

        Yes, it can be seen at period (and museum taken) fotos of inside tank turrets. Quite expensive, if original.

              Well thats quite interesting, I didn't think it would be used inside a tank... What do these usually go for anyway? Ive never seen one for sale and Im pretty sure I got it out of the auction for less then $20. Cant even find any online, if I could find the original rack for it I would fill it up with flares!

              When I took the dimensions I did them a bit weird but this is what I got, the side measures 4 inches, its 5 3/4 inches long and i got another measurement for 6 1/2 inches that I wrote down as the top? I think I meant the height or vice versa. Ill check again after I get home from school.

              Many thanks

                At least 500 and up. Stuff like this rarely shows up, and if, loads of buyers fight for it. Any kind of internal boxes are in high demand those days.

                  Any chance of getting them in centimeters? It's the original scale used in Germany in WWII.

                  I have two boxes for headsets and throat-micros. Both are partly rusted and show traces of ordnance blue (blaugrau). I wonder if they are just early or went in an open vehicle...?

                  See what one looks like in place in a StuG III:

                    Alrighty, I didnt have a ruler on hand this morning so I had to convert the measurements.

                    L = 16.19 Cm
                    W= 10.47 Cm
                    H= 14.44 Cm

                    I didn't expect an interior box like this to demand such a high price! So do the dimensions of the box show it was from a Tiger I Because looks like size of these boxes varies compared to the Stug III and I would suppose other tanks as well.

                    Would something like this fit better under the ordnance forums?

                    Thanks

                      I suggest the tankers ("Achtung Panzer") forum, just below this forum
