Folding Shovel on Ebay Help!! Please

To all field gear experts,

I have been looking at this folding spade and cover on ebay (there is another on ebay that I like better). I'm not up to speed on this form of equipment. It looks ok to me but I would like opinions on it. The description did not state if the spade had maker markings or not?

Opinions please!!

You know just after I posted this thread, I took a much better look at the shovel and leather carrier and got the feeling that it was a fake! Mostly it was the shovel not having markings, being very used and pitted. The carrier is near mint? Also, the placement of the metal "spade cup" on the carrier was odd.

The whole thing started to stink after taking a good look at it.

Below is another folding shovel on ebay. This one is with out a doubt genuine. both item are the same date to boot!

this one looks much better.... its quite amazing to see BAL stamp on the shovel .... I wonder what other guys think about that one.. ??

The bottom rivet holding the handle in the shovel is missing- no hole present in the wood shaft? Mike, I think the bal is on the cover, not the shovel.

Otherwise, IMO looks good.

I have a E. tool carrier marked with a BAL stamp too but on my the stamp is done in red ink. The carrier is unfortunately unmarked I am quit sure about the originalety on this one.
