Canteen help

I need a little help, i bought an unissued mint 1 liter canteen a while back.
i took it apart to check maker marks, all is good but never snapped the cover back on.
it sat in my case maybe a year now i have been trying to refit and snap the cover back, MAN what a job.
Any advice on how to get the cover snapped? i can see the seem starting to strain on the other side.
Any and all advice i would be very greatfull for.

Hi,
Put it in warm Water and place the wet Cover on the canteen.
After snapped let it dry on the canteen.

I would try fitting it slowly. Make sure you put the front frontwards and the back backwards...or it won't go in well If it's a 1L, the back of the cover, with the reinforcement ring, goes in the flat of the bottle, and the other part to the belly.

Once done, "massage" it little by little, towards the snaps, so the cloth extends just that tiny bit you'll need to close them.
