    numbered Tornister ...

can anyone tell me what does these big numbers mean on some fur covered Tornisters ... for example number "3" - it is made of leather and about 5 cm big

I believe its only on radio packs - they have different construction... and number indicates a radio type that was placed in backpack

      Yep,

Michael is right. There were three different ones all with a different content and numbered accordingly. These seem to be hard to find now adays. In my younger years these were quite common, now I can't seem to find any.

but the inside is exactly like "normal" Tornister - pockets and stuff like that ... is that normal for radio backpack?
And what could be medium price for that (nr. "3" Tornister) in 4 out of 5 points condition?

        Thanks a lot!

Thanks for uploading the pics mate
Tornister on the pictures is NOT mine - but i was offered the similar one just with number "3" - and was made in 1937 if i remember right!
So does anyone know what is that thing exactly? Maybe an early SS Tornister with Regiment number

                    Thanks for help!

well.. its not regular fury backpack - its a radio pack with most common number 3 like I said before

if there is no shelfs inside - means they were removed - its common post war modification - packs with shelfs are more unique

but what's the purpose of those pockets inside the Tornister if radio would block them anyway

They aren't actually radio packs, but telephone squad packs. There are 3 packs that were issued to the squad. The numbers served to tell you what its contents were and also what the role of its wearer was within the phone squad. The "2" pack is the rarest of the 3. Each pack is worth around $150-$200 depending upon condition. The number "2" might go higher.
