Newbie Needs Help on Gas Mask Rig

Hello everyone! I have been reading these forums, on occasion, for awhile now mainly to learn, and this is my first post. Please go easy on me! I picked up this gas mask rig and would like to know: What country? What model designation? What time period was it used? and finally, What is it worth? Thanks in advance for your help!

The canister looks like the German pre war issued type mainly 1934-36! But the stamping in the bottom seem not right to me, Is there any stampings inside on the lid for spare linses?? The mask and filter unit look more like post war to me probably East German but not total sure. The value for yours will be low! please look for "normal" gasmask and canistern on Ebay and dealers thsy often have several for sale; anyway often found like $100 original and in good shape.

Thank you for your help so far! No markings/stampings on the lens lid inside the top of the can.

What does "DOT 45" mean then?

Do East German gas masks and filter resemble WWII 3rd Reich GM-30's?

Still hard then to say anything about the canister? But that sure look alike the early ones. Regarding East German used masks noy much knowledge but they reused and remaked Wehrmacht stuff in the early years of the Peoples Republik.

Dot 45? Well "dot" was the tree letter code for a Czech weapon manufactor during the war, but I guess this stamping is a fake or means something unknown to me.

I believe the mask is Spanish....The "dot 45" is more than likely faked...."dot" was a czech contractor which made small arms(K98k's,g33/40's,etc.)....I personally believe the whole rig is a German made gas mask for the Spanish army, manufactured prior to WWII....IF that's the case, these aren't worth a great deal of money...Reenactors use these for reenacting and cost is rather minimal....Hope this helps....Bodes

In my opinion the filter is spanish (CMP). The gas mask seems to be a german M-30, but you must check if there are some stamps in its interior. I also think the canister is from España. Some vendors say the germans sold M-30 masks to Spain during the 30s and it´s common to find gas masks composed of german and spanish components. Are there spare lenses for the mask ?

I will try to answer the additional questions posed:

As to whether the DOT 45 is fake, I can't answer. The mask was picked up by a friend at either a yard sale, garage sale, or estate sale many years ago. My friend doesnt remember which. I got it from him.

There are no stampings that I can see on the interior of the mask.

There are no spare lenses.

Apparently there is some disagreement as to whether this is a Spanish or East German gas mask. I went to the web site and it doesnt look like any East German gas mask illustrated. It does, however, resemble the Spanish DAGSA circa 1935 mask though, and also greatly resembles the M-30.

If it is Spanish, what would it be worth in U.S. $ ?

If it is in fact a pre-war German M-30, with some additional Spanish components, what would it be worth in U.S. $ ?

I really appreciate everyone's input so far!

I agree, Its Spanish issue. You see these in Australia quite frequently, they don't go for much cash. About US$35-50. Its quite OK to add to a gas mask collection, but I wouldn't include it in a German equipment collection. Just my opinion. Hope this helps, but probably isn't good news for you.

Ok, so is the consensus that this is a Spanish Gas mask/filter or is it a pre-war German M-30 with a Spanish filter? The wrinkled elastic webbing on the mask looks like an M-30 and/or a Spanish DAGSA circa 1935.

After looking at the website given in the replies, I agree that the filter is most likely Spanish (CMP).

Is the can Spanish or pre-war German?

Guess I am a little disappointed as I was hoping it was a WWII German rig to add to my collection. I collect WWII small arms and accoutrements. If it isn't, then I guess I will just sell it.

I collect German field gear including gas masks, and I completely agree that the entire rig is Spanish. The value of $35-$50 is accurate as well.
