    Tropical Canteen Opinion Please

    Hello,

I'm looking for opinions on the tropical canteen shown in the photos. It is available for sale. Originally I didn't care for the appearance of the canvas straps and hardware associated with it and passed over the item as potential post war manufacture. I'm starting to second guess myself.

    Regards,
    Tim

Looks like a post war rig.
What is the date stamp on the back of the canteen body?

Would you prefer the use of wood body canteen? Not sure if the canteen or the terms I used to describe the canteen are causing you to hit your head? Let me know.

        Thanks,
        Tim

Perhaps bakelite wood canteen, or kokosnuss canteen might make Patrick feel better

I don't like the strap harness. please see if the bottle is dated at the back...

            Canteen

            Hi,

It's a Ritter "Alfurit" canteen which most people assert is post war. All I know is that mine came from a huge collection in the US and was brought back by a vet. There are also mess-tins marked HRE 43 or 44 in green and grey paint which were also liberated with their Ritter wrapping paper.

            Regards,

            Grossfuss

Carles thank you for the suggested terms to use in the future. I appreciate it. I have attached a few additional photos of the reverse side for review. Grossfuss thank you for providing the description of this particular variety of laminated wood canteen. Grossfuss are the straps on your canteen the same?

WWII period ones are usually dated where the maker stamp is. I've got two and they are stamped:

                D.R.G.M
                HRE 42 (or 43)
                D.R.P. angm.

Your's is not stamped as mine, so I tend to think it is are either not Wehrmacht issue (so civilian) or not WWII produced.

We can call these canteens likes bakelite canteen or (IMO) m.41 because the production has begun rigth in the 1941.
Call it tropical or DAK is an error that I hope will be completely deleted
BTW, this one is of course post war ones.

                      HRE Canteen

                      Hi,

Whenever they were made (I'd like to see proof either way) they all seem to be in this condition, so if post-war and used why not more used specimens?

Anyway my "Pink Canteen" is in the same colour as yours. A pal of mine in Canada has one also in same colour and condition.

When I bought mine it was a reasonable price from a good source so no problem whatever.

                      Good hunting,

                      Grossfuss
