German Messkit MN 44 & Canteen ESB 41

Hello there, It is a nice grouping of 1944 coming out straight from a barn; fortunately the moths did’nt bite that much!!. The Messkit is marked MN44 on one side and already has an additional plate, the canteen is an ESB 41and has been obviously reconditioned several times and is found with a simplified cup model in brown enamel without the handles. This means that already in 44 manufacturers were trying to simplify the manufacture of these cups! The manufacturer is probably AEMA, I presume ... It may also explain the fact that a little later manufacturers have also removed the handles of the Messkit too to simplified the production! Thanks for your info’s.

Very nice, but I'm not sure why this means the canteen was put together in 1944.

Hi, after the retreat of the German Army in 44 from France, there are still some pockets till the capitulation but i don't think there was anymore logistics supply coming from Germany to those pockets. Both are finds from France and from the region of Poitiers. The meaning of this post is that we have on one hand a messkit with an extra plate made in 44 and on the other hand a canteen with an enameled cup without handles produced also in 1944. Actually i'm not sure from when this cup has been produced and which manufacturer made them; maybe they were produced before 1944?. IMO this type of enameled cups looks some late production, probably from 44 to the after war. I have other canteens with this type of cup in mint condition coming from the East of France, also i know only this exemple of enameled cup without handles. It was great to have this exemple of a reconditioned canteen with this type of simplified cup coming from a region of France.
So the point is: who decided to simplified this and complicate that? i doubt i will get many answers (!?). Thank you for your interest.
