Stone mint matching/named gas mask set

Fresh out of the woodwork named to Obgfr. BEERHEIDE. KIA in Stalingrad 1942. I guess he left his gas mask at home Even for me a set that is unparalleled. Very proud to be the first collector to have it in hands.

"Very nice! But how do you know it is this guy?"

Same comment, but also same question here. Beerheide is indeed a very uncommon name, and the rank is the same. But with no first name noted, no unit, etc, how probable is it that it actualy belonged to this Beerheide? For exameple did you find the mask anywhere near his hometown that is listed here as in Hessen?
Here is a better quality pic from the DRK lists.

Here is a relic one that was actualy dug up in the Gumrak area near Stalingrad.
Having a Feldponummer defenetely makes the match much more solid.

Sorry but i dont give a f**** on these so called relics that all come with FP number. I own about 250 Wehrmacht gas masks all coming out of the woodwork and not even 10 of them have a FP number. I guess in Stalingrad every second had one "". All i can say ist that the set came out of Fulda in Hessen (i live in Hessen too). Fulda is not far away from Schlüchtern. I cannot prove wether Josef was the pre-owner but there are only a few families with this name. Maybe i am wrong but better to have a real Name on it without history than a "relic" with phantasy FP.
BTW i will pick up a nice normandy camo sheme gas mask can from a german attic next week. They are still out there. I will let you guys know once i have it in hands.

Do you have any valid reason to believe the canister I presented is fake? HAve you seen canisters with FPNs for sale in Stalingrad? If your statistic of one in 25 canisters having a Feldpostnummer is
correct, then there must be about 10000 canisters with Feldposnummern in the Stalingrad region; not exactly a rarity. Having been there several times, the one shown here is however the only one
I ever saw with a FPN.

As evidence they are not so rare, here is a woodwork one from Southern France as well.

FP numbers are common on combat troops worn cans ,maybe most of yours are from luftschutz ? all in all i remember my first found in late 80"s the owner name was ' uffz, siegert' +FP number , since this time i have seen a lot of others, painted on cans ,glued on pice of paper or with a sewn cloth tag on straps ,even sometimes triple numered at one can + on mask this configuration is to find most of the time on luftwaffe sets .

Two great examples you showed here Jean-Loup. And of course with the better pics a true battle relic of Stalingrad, congrats!!! These FP numbers exist especially on camo cans. Here are two woodwork cans from me i could score last year. I agree most of them are from Luftwaffe.

Thanks, I perfer this answer than your first one.
Regarding your mask, I agree the name is very rare. But then again, you can usualy find several people/brothers with the same name in one town. I was thinking that as you have the luck
to find these from the woodwork, maybe family members could tell you "this is uncle Josef's mask, who was killed at Stalingrad".
That mask named to a woman that you posted is very interesting!

"on the side note, how do you guys find soldiers on DRK lists ? i have gasmask with rather rare name to an officer
                            Hauptm. Kesselschlager"

They needed more men with names like this in Stalingrad!
The DRK list has a few big limitations: you can only search the database by unit, and of course the database only includes people who were missing, so not the confirmed dead, nor the
                            confirmed living.
In your case as the name is extremely rare, your best bet is to get in touch with a researcher at NARA (US national archives), and ask them to check the lists of German officers for that
name. If they find the file, which they should, it will include a photo of him as well as unit info, etc. It should only cost you 50/100 dollars or so if they do find the file.

@Jean-Loup: I wasnt in the best mood when i answered that day and the result was inappropriate and i apologize for that as you always have been a great help here in the forum the last time.
Mostly i receive these items after a house cleaning so unfortunately nobody so is there to talk about it. I could research that actually about 20 Beerheide families are living here in germany.(mostly Rheinland Pfalz and Hessen). We will never know if Josef was the owner who died in Stalingrad. In the end we have no Feldpost to verify that. I hope the next one i will get is marked
