zeltbahn rope, yes...but is it period?

hey Guys. Glenn again. I saw on two sites what is claiming to be WWII German zeltbahn rope for sale. I am interested in getting one if they are the real deal. but how does one know. one is offered by Bill Shea and the other from a forum member. I am not trying to say they dont know as a fact (because maybe they do and so do you) but I dont. can anyone tell me if these are the real deal or could just as well be post war zelt rope. any thoughts/opinions or even better facts of why/why not these are good would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Glenn

A very hard to find item. This 36 inch section of natural hemp rope has been sealed at both ends by steel clips to form loops and to keep the ends from fraying. one of these ropes was issued with every German WW2 zeltbahn for use either as a guide line for a constructed tent or for when using the zeltbahn as a rain cape. Condition is very good with minor surface rust on the metal clips. Price $10.00

    Zeltbahn Lanyard Tie Ropes
This is the one thing that 95% of the Zeltbahns are missing. These are either for the Zeltbahn or for the tent pegs. I have several of this size available.
    One meter length

    Glenn,

I wouldn't exclude the fact that the guy rope shown in the large image might be post-war, but it does look just like a pre-1945 item, which can also be found featuring spliced loops without the metal clips.

The small image is too small for me to make a reasonable comment.

I agree that the photos do not really make it easy. All the rope that I have seen associated with Zeltbahnen seems to be a smoother higher quality of hemp. But, who knows, I guess it could be late war. For $10 it is not much of a gamble.

Here 2 pictures of my zeltbahn rope... it came with 4 tent poles and 3 tent pegs and a field grey tent bag (not the swiss one I might add )

The rope has a length of aprox 2 meters

but as said before, for 10 bucks it looks nice enough.....

noticed this later... the ones being sold are 1 meter ??? sounds a little short to me. they have to be aprox 2 meters in length (aprox 78 inch)

I also have read that original tent ropes are black, but I have no idea if this is allways the case, otherwise mine would be post war as well....
