Looks like a pre-war aluminum can. These tend to be dated late 30s.

Honestly, I am not fond of the camo. The wear does not look natural and uniform. Look at the second photo for example. The top piece as all sorts of bogus looking wear, and the bottom piece has little. Some rivets as well.

I think it is a steel box. I would say late war tan repaint, to update it, rather than camo. Does look field done.

As already stated ; agree that, it looks to be late war overpaint ( typical late war tan color ), not exacly a camo. Seen this type of overpaint ( mostly on aluminium cans ).
