    Chickenwire Gasmask Canister

This canister was sourced locally in Holland and comes from a farm in Schijndel. A local collector got a few canisters from a farm there. This was one of them.
The village of Schijndel was the scene of heavy fighting in 1944 during operation Market Garden. The canister was cleaned by the former owner but is still dirty and greasy. Anyone seen anything like this before?

        Hi Erik,

The wire has the wrong twist. So it's suspect as a wartime ensemble.
Likely put together to enhance the value.

I agree it is a postwar fabrication. It is already returned to the seller...

Wearing a can with such wire would rip up a uniform pretty quickly. With no value as camouflage.

It does not have any use for the soldier, unless the German wants to stick some branches in the can, it would still be very embarrassing to walk with it, it seems more like someone's fantasy.

Some use it as a sex toy.

Exactly my thoughts when I saw this type of canister....maybe wrap a canister in burlap or zelt material...but chicken wire ????
