    The LUT device was a clockwork mechanism that steered the torpedo in a zig zag pattern for attacking convoys. There are photos in Rossler's Die Torpedoes der Deutschen U-Boote, pp 123, also the U-505 in Chicago still has its original LUT programmer mounted between the torpedo tubes.

    Pretty cool piece of pre-transistor machinery.
