    Strange canteen, with cover??

    Hello,
I got this canteen of an Old men that found it after the war.

It is the normal ww2 german canteen, but there's a cover around the normal cover. (it's hand-made)
Has anyone seen something like that before?
    What is the purpose.

I hope someone can help me!

    Greetings,
    Frank!

if I understand correctly - this is oversewn on regular felt cover ???
it looks like its made off tropical material (like for trop tunics)

rivet and buckle are aluminium - also snaps are early/mid model

looks like field modification ?? - quite nice

Is the felt cover underneath torn or damaged? It looks like a early/mid war canteen with field repairs or camouflage. Maybe done by the QM to reissue? If it is tropical tunic material, may indicate N Afrika use-because the supplies in Afrika were in VERY short er um supply. ! would make sense to repair and re-issue. Not ALL DAK gear was web, as we well know.

              Hello,
I's very difficult to tell if the original cover is intact, because this one can't be removed.

Here a close up. How does it look?

The buckle that you attach to the breadbag is made out of metal. The canteen is made of alluminium. (at canteens ,I've seen all sorts of combinations)

              Greetings,
              Frank
