                Hello,

well the snaps are indeed strange and not what i would expect to see on a wartime example on both "male" and "female" parts (in fact on checking through some of my waterbottles i can't seem to find a match), as you know waterbottles of the period were well marked, as were the covers also....

Is it a blue covered bottle?

I have never felt comfortable with the blue covers personally. I seem to remember that Hitlerjugend/marinejugend were issued with blue covers but i am very wary of the blue covered bottles that surface from time to time. Paramilitary bottles are out of my field of interest however....i just don't get a military issue feel from this one.

Postwar border police were also issued blue covers too just to muddy the waters further.

Just feeling negative on this one thus far.

                Patrick.

This is not a postwar Border Guard canteen. Those canteens are set up with black leather straps and are of the design that has a cup attached. Although I agree that this does not appear to be military issue because of the snaps, I think this could be a prewar or wartime paramilitary canteen. It MIGHT be a very early Luftwaffe canteen perhaps? Not sure.
