MG stamp on a MG Ammo box

    Hello,

This box is from a French local woodwork, I have some doubts about the MG stamp on it, I think it was used after the war by the French army, am I right?

    Thanks

    Regards

The paint looks old but difficult to say how much. The box looks like a Ptr. K.41. What are the paint colours on the box?

Are there any layers under the blue? Is the box dated? That blue paint might be original, as the tan wasn't introduced till early 1943.

I am quite sure that this blue paint is original, I have not seen a date on it. The big issue for me is only the white paint.

That's difficult to say. It could be period...but we can't say if not. These patronenkasten are all supposed to be for MGs but were used for many other things, so perhaps this one would contain MG spare parts...Can't help much, sorry.

Hi flash1944, the box should be from 1941-1942, only a few at the beginning of 1943 came in that color. The year of manufacture should be on the top of the box. It could have rests of red primer too and probably be red inside. The primer was used until middle of 1942. Later this practice was left because of costs. Theese boxes are always in bad and rusty condition.

Gurtsack, spare parts boxes would be marked with E or Z and mostly with the machine gun model 34 or 42.
I think it could be part of a combat vehicle, such as for example a SKFZ 250/251. They carried other ammo in this boxes too and often the crews used their own markings to get all their stuff in order.
