Hi, does anyone know what this steel container was used for, I have always thought that it was MG related, maybe for storage of the flash hider. Nicely marked on it's base with padding inside at both ends and quite a heavy little beast ! Best regards David.

It is not exactly for the flash hider storage but for cleaning it, the "Petroleumsbüchse für d. Ruckstoßverstärker". With the flash hider inside, it is to be filled with petrol, to make dirt soften, prior to cleaning it. They were stored in the E can. See Bergflak's article about the accesory can:
