The leather Y straps look good to me however the black thread used in the construction is a little weird.

Steve - Black thread is used in stitching on occasion. If I recall correctly, I have seen it on helmet chinstraps too.

Yes, definately OK. I have seen black thread on a number of early field gear, I have an M31 canteen with black thread on all seams and parts. Nice piece
