Yes they are!
They're one of the many real"last-ditch" M44 style low boots made by the Germans towards the end of the war
!In my opinion their soles have been "doctored"
,in that the other similar pairs I've seen either had 20 or so hobnails or leather disks like the ones found on felt/leather boots!
You're friend's been lucky this time,but I hope he hasn't coughed out plenty of money for these,for as genuine as they are they're not as sought after as real, true-blue M44s or late-war M37s!Some may say that such shoes were issued to "plebs" like young boys or Volksturmmannschaft rather than to so-called"Elite units" or even plain-Jane landsers,but this is not true.....they're nicely done,not at all rushed and would suit a very-late war M44 uniform to a tee!!!!!!
Michael.....I agree that they barely bear(pardon the pun!) any resemblance to "real" M44 but,apart from the markings, there are at least other five details that scream"Ich bihn eine Deutsche Schuhe!"!
