    Late war mess tin

Just got this mess tin from a friend. We both assumed that it was a post war tin until I noticed the maker marks on the handle hinge which read MN 45. The tin is aluminum with a mismatched and unmarked lid that has a steel handle. The reason we thought it was post war was because of the color. What do you think?

hey Steve. definatly the real deal. wow. I never saw a '45 dated one before although it doesnt look like the top half is the same shade. am I right or is it the camera? but the bottom piece is very nicely marked. to bad the top wasnt a perfectly maker match, then you would have a very hard to find piece. Hi Steve, definitely a nice find even with the mismatched top.

Great! Thanks for the feedback guys . After doing a bit of research, it appears that this colour is similar to that used on the late war enamels mess tins.

          Cheers,

          Steve

            Another '45 Dated Mess Tin

Here is another '45 dated tin. I cannot make out the manufacturer, it is quite small and coverd with paint and oxidation. It appears to be "Sn" or "Sh" 45, stamped in between the two rivets for the handle, on both sides. Mainly aluminum, with the handlke and catch made of steel.
