CONDITION CONDITION CONDITION...you will pay for condition...everyone see's something cheaper but never has anything for sale with condition. that is a 41 dated sling in superb condition. 200 dollars today well in a few years to find a sling like that expect to pay double...gosh but my apologies for venting here...no one has money to buy this crap, all complain about the prices but GUESS what??? Next year it will be more expensive. Snooze you lose. Try to sell a dinked up piece of junk verses trying to sell a beautiful piece of militaria at a high price...guess which one sells first?

Well, whats anything really worth today?? What someone is willing to pay, I would say for a stone mint sling that would be the price so he maybe paid 50 more for it. We dont know the motives behind every sale so its only guess work.

          Nice sling by the way

          Thanks Michael

            Too high?

            John,

I agree with you in this one. About four years ago I paid over $250 for a mint 1945 dated "skl" code sling and have not regretted it for a second.

                Mr. Phosphateb,

Vent ahead, all fine by me. Still I find it way to much....
I never saw a sling, even in such condition, priced for 160 € (=200$) on shows here,...I'm sure or at least I hope that other belgian members can confirm this.

I probably still could be considered as a 'young collector' amongst most of the members here, but I do know the different between a (local)show-price and a ebay(us)/internet-price for certain items ...I'm only sharing my opinion based on personal experiences, nothing more.

                Cheers

                  Hi Jan,

Still, the problem is ... if you need anything in a mint condition, it's very hard to first find it and then then to agree on the high price. I do agree with phosphateb, high quality items will always sell. I bet you'd rather have a nice matching K98k bayonet in a very good condition than a more commonly found beaten up non matching rusty one. Well, so is the majority of the collectors and the prices are accordingly ...
When I bought my first SS Tarnjacke (No. 5) some 15 years ago, I paid about (converted) 1100 Euro which was a lot of money to me then. Now adays you'd have to pay 4000 Euro for the same condition. I once heared about an investment advice ... militaria is THE best way to invest.

Something I tell myself ... Money comes in every month, some nice items only once in a lifetime ...

                  MfG,
                  Bart

Im with the vast majority on this one. I feel if it needs to be upgraded in my opinion pass it on 'cause your only gonna lose money on resale anyway. (probably) so why not just pump in a bit more for a piece you can ALWAYS look at and say, "this is awsome". I always only go for the 8 out of a 10 or better in condition. I dont have a huge collection. (its a good modest size though) but everything I have I am not embarrassed to show off to anyone though. I think all would say, "nice stuff Glenn, great overall conditioned pieces." and isnt that what its all about. seeing what they looked like when they were actually being used?... just my thoughts. If I had discovered this auction while it was online, I would have purchased it and walked away laughting, because $200 is cheap for such pristine example of a K98k sling. Just look at the nice Kar. stamp on it! To compare, I would put $400-500 on the table for a 45-dated sling in used condition. To the end it sum up to you pay for what you get

                        Wow

Wow! for a new collector I whould have never thought there would be soo many different opions on this subject I just thought it was a over priced sling with a under informed buyer!! But I am wrong. I read each comment and desiferd the meaning and the motive behind each one. some people believe that this is a very rare offer and would jump all over it, and some would call it crazy. It just shows the differencs in peope's collecting style.

It might also have to do with the availablity of items and the number of years on collected, although this does not go for everyone.

Things were different when there was no internet available.

Many new collectors start with buying low level items, as I did. Being happy with every dented waterbottle one finds as this adds to the collection. After some years one finds that it is better to wait for the rarer and more expencive items.

As I said, internet changed a lot. As a starting collector one has a whealth of items to choose from, being genuine or fake.
