    German folding shovel

    Hello

    I have just received that folding shovel and there are some details I don't like.









    Here are the parts I don't like. Metal part under the bakelite nut is welded and filled. And the extremity of the metallic part is strangely finished. Do you believe that one has been restored ?

    That maker "gyr" is rarely seen. What is the maker's name ?

      Maker "gyr" also seen on wire cutters (I have a "gyr 42" pair). I've been told by other members that the maker is Hugo Linder Deltawerk, Solingen.

      As far as the finishes, I think the grind marks under the nut are typical....my example ('40 dated) has the same, and has been bent a bit as well.

        Thanks Mike. Those "grind marks" under the nut are certainly typical to that maker. Do you also find those marks on your 42 dated ones ?

        And do you have that flaw on your examples ?

          The grind marks are present on all 3 folding spades I have - even more so on the later examples, so I think there's no problem there. The other defect just looks like a stamping error. Probably not uncommon on mid-war examples as well.
